In the northern Afghan province of Balkh, authorities made a significant discovery of a cache of USA left weapons, which included 21 Kalashnikov assault rifles, as reported by the head of the province's counter-terrorist police unit on Monday.
The cache, recently found and disclosed to the press by Mullah Ata Mohammad Bilal, contained not only 21 Kalashnikovs but also 11 pistols, a machine gun, and several hand grenades. However, Bilal did not confirm if any individuals had been taken into custody as a result of this discovery.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Asif Waziri, the police spokesperson for Balkh, informed the public that the police had apprehended 80 individuals over the past six months. These arrests were made on charges related to criminal activities, including the illegal possession of firearms.
Additionally, recent law enforcement operations led to the discovery and confiscation of 19 firearms in the eastern province of Wardak, and in the southern province of Kandahar, authorities seized thousands of bullets and projectiles.
Since taking power in August 2021, Afghanistan's interim government has been actively collecting arms and ammunition, even including battle tanks and artillery. They have made a commitment to gather weapons and ammunition from anyone outside the official security entities, reinforcing their efforts to maintain order and security in the country.
